Rajasthan Royals all-rounder Riyan Parag was the star of the day as the franchise handed Delhi Capitals their second consecutive defeat of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Parag, who led the home side to a 12-run win over the Delhi Capitals, smoked South African pacer Anrich Nortje for 25 runs in the 20th over of the innings. The last-over wave proved important as RR secured a 12-point win over DC in the match. After Parag’s blitzkrieg, an old post of his went viral on social media, in which the uncapped Indian all-rounder had spoken about hitting four sixes in an over.

“My inner conscience says that at some point in this IPL I will hit four sixes in a row.”, Parag had tweeted last year.

After being named player of the match, Parag said he felt ill before the match and had to take painkillers before entering the field. RR continued the trend of the home side emerging victorious as they registered a 12-run win over Delhi Capitals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

“I worked very hard, for the last three days I was in bed, I was taking painkillers, I just got up today and I am very happy,” Parag said in a presentation.

The all-rounder has had a fantastic start to the IPL 2024 and is benefiting from a clear role in the Rajasthan line-up, where he is at number four. He then credited his domestic form for his impressive start to IPL 2024.

“I know what my opinion of myself is. That doesn’t change, whether I get a clean sheet or not. That also has a lot to do with the type of season, I had a great national season and that helps. Someone in the top four has to play the 20 overs, the wicket stayed low and stopped, in the first game Sanju Bhayya did it,” he added.
