The AFL Grand Final entertainment has been revealed, with a superstar set to headline the MCG later this year.

Every year, special attention is paid to the pre-match antics and it will be no different on September 28, when two football teams compete for the game’s biggest prize.

Robbie Williams’ performance during the 2022 Grand Final was a huge hit with fans, while Meatloaf’s performance in 2011 was a flop.

And according to News Corp, another US superstar name will be present at this year’s biggest football game: Katy Perry is reportedly set to star.

The 39-year-old American sensation is known for hits such as Roar, Teenage Dream and Firework, and also appears in Menulog adverts.

She performed at the Women’s T20 World Cup final in 2020 and will reportedly earn a $5 million fee for singing at the Grand Final in September.

“We expect this to be announced in the coming weeks. The AFL has been in discussions with Perry’s management for the past few months,” Jay Clark said on Fox Footy.

‘The AFL has wanted the biggest names to headline its flagship end-of-year event and Katy Perry, it must be said, is one of the best female artists in the world. I think she has 50 million downloads a month on Spotify.

‘She will be the headliner unless there is a last-minute about-face.’

Perry was in Melbourne earlier this year to perform at a private show hosted by Anthony Pratt, a billionaire businessman.

“In recent years, the headline performances at the Toyota AFL Grand Final have been world-class and we are excited to deliver another spectacular spectacle ahead of the biggest game of the season,” AFL spokesman Jay Allen said.

‘We will be in a position to make an announcement regarding this year’s Telstra pre-match entertainment soon.’
