Radio star Ali Clarke has given fans an update after undergoing surgery following her shock cancer diagnosis.

The Adelaide radio presenter, who hosts Max & Ali in the Morning alongside Max Burford, broke down last week when she revealed she had breast cancer.

Ali called into the radio show on Tuesday morning and revealed that she had undergone a mastectomy a few days ago and was doing well.

“The doctor says everything has gone so well and so incredibly that I am already home,” he said.

Ali said the surgery took several hours and he will have to wait for the results to see if further treatment is necessary.

Hayley Pearson, who is currently filling in for her while she is on leave, asked: “Have you had a chance to look around yet? Or was it all already closed?”

“We were all involved but… it wasn’t as confrontational as I think I had in mind,” Ali responded.

‘My biggest relief was when the kids came in and I asked them if they wanted to take a look and they all said yes, and they didn’t bat an eye.’

Ali also thanked his friends and fans for reaching out and offering their support over the past week.

“I can’t thank everyone enough who has helped me and everyone who is going through this journey, I’m thinking of you,” she said.

Ali shocked listeners last Tuesday when she announced she would be taking a break from radio while she undergoes treatment for breast cancer.

“I thought it was very small and manageable, but I found a lot of small cancers. That means I’m having some pretty major surgery later this week and I’ll have to take some time off to recover, as you can imagine,” he said.

“You know, I’ve never worn casual clothes, I’ve never shown my breasts off. They’ve been absolutely functional for me. In fact, when I was little, they almost prevented me from playing sports.”

The radio host then burst into tears as she opened up emotionally about “losing a part” of herself.

“I’ve really struggled with myself, between being angry at myself and feeling almost vain for having lost a part of myself,” she said.

“But when I sit back and try to reason with it, I’m about to lose a part of me that society has always told me actually makes me a woman and that it’s absolutely necessary, and the other, bigger part of my brain knows that this is actually what needs to happen for me to be good.”

Despite the heartbreaking diagnosis, Ali admitted that he is “very lucky” with the quality of medical care he has received so far.
