Prince Harry spoke candidly about suicide on a bonus episode of his Apple + TV series, The Me You Can’t See, released Thursday night.
Speaking to Oprah, the prince said he now feels more rested with how to respond to someone who tells him they are thinking about ending their own lives.
It comes after Harry confessed in an earlier episode that he didn’t know how to respond when his wife Meghan Markle told him she was suicidal in early 2019.
In the new episode, Harry and Oprah agreed that the best advice they learned while filming the mental health documentaries was to tell a suicidal person that they are “ not alone. ”
So many people are afraid of being on the receiving end of that conversation [from a suicidal person] because they don’t feel like they have the right tools to give the right advice, ‘said Harry.
“But what you want to say is” You’re here. ” Listen, because listening and being part of that conversation is without a doubt the best first step you can take. ‘
In an episode released last week, Harry recalled the moment a pregnant Meghan told him she wanted to kill herself. She revealed the news shortly before getting engaged at the Royal Albert Hall in January 2019.
“I’m a little ashamed of the way I’ve handled it,” Harry revealed.
And of course, because of the system we were in and the responsibilities and duties that we had, we had to hug and then change to jump into a convoy with police escort and drive to the Royal Albert. Room for a charity event. Then step into a wall of cameras and pretend everything is okay. ‘

Thursday’s bonus episode of The Me You Can’t See also featured conversations with mental health experts and celebrities about suicide.
Actress Glenn Close appeared and said it was important to talk openly about the struggle of suicidal ideation.
Close admitted that she was a little embarrassed not realizing that a family member was struggling with their mental health.
Harry agreed and said, “There’s an element of shame we feel because we think,” How could we not have seen it? How could we not have known? How did you not feel comfortable enough to share that with me? ” ‘
He didn’t say if he was referring directly to his own reaction when Meghan told him she no longer wanted to live.

In the series, people from all over the world discussed their experiences battling issues such as depression, trauma, anxiety and mental illness, and included famous faces such as Lady Gaga, Glenn Close and NBA star DeMar DeRozan.
During the series, Harry said therapy helped him “break the cycle.”
“For me, therapy has equipped me to do anything,” he said.
I knew if I didn’t do the therapy and recover myself I would lose this woman I could spend the rest of my life watching [with]. ‘
He says his family tried to keep him and Meghan from leaving when she was suicidal and admits she was in her 30s to drunk and drug use.
“When I finally made that decision for my family, I was still told, ‘You can’t do this,’ Harry told Oprah.
And it’s like, “Well, how bad does it have to get before I can do this?”
‘They [Markle] would end her life. It shouldn’t come to that. ‘
When asked if he regrets, he says that it is rather not taking a position in his relationship with Markle.
