The popular Today breakfast show star, 35, shot her final live crossover on the Gold Coast before preparing to welcome her second child, a baby girl, with husband Paul.

But what was supposed to be a touching farewell quickly turned strange as she cheerfully said goodbye in the aftermath of a robbery.

The 9News weekend presenter was shocked to see her husband and four-year-old son, Albert, arrive on set with flowers as she reported from the macabre scene.

Presenters Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo said goodbye to the Sydney-based reporter, laughing at Mia’s peculiar location.

As Mia stood at a crime scene in Ormeau, reporting on an overnight robbery at a local tobacco shop, the conversation took an unexpected turn.

As police combed the cordoned-off area behind her, Karl, 50, and Sarah, 38, chatted happily to Mia about her maternity leave.

During the chat, she was given a bouquet of flowers and a little jumpsuit embroidered with the Today logo while she cradled her pregnant belly.

Mia was then joined by her husband Paul and son Albert, as the little family celebrated and laughed in front of the crime scene behind them.

“The beautiful happiness in front of a crime scene in Queensland says it all about Queensland, doesn’t it?” Karl joked.

The crime Mia was reporting on involved a gang of criminals who rammed a van into a business on Peachey Road around 3 a.m. to rob the ATM.

The offenders dragged the car outside, stole the money and fled in a white Toyota HiLux, as police investigated the scene while Mia waved goodbye.

Mia and Paul welcomed their first child, Albert, in December 2019.

This will be her second pregnancy and the reporter hopes to soon give birth to a girl.

“This is going to be a mini-me, which is kind of crazy… I don’t know if the world is ready for that,” she joked.
