The Election Commission has issued a notification banning the holding, publishing or publishing of exit polls between 7 am on April 19 and 6.30 pm on June 1, when voting for the Lok Sabha and four state assemblies will be held.

The notice issued on Thursday also made it clear that under the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, display of election matters, including the results of polls or other polls, in electronic media would be prohibited during the 48 hours. period ending with the time set for the close of the poll.

Besides the Lok Sabha polls, the assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha and Sikkim are also going for elections.

In addition, by-elections for 25 constituencies in 12 states will also be held during this period.
