In 2020, Davidson starred in The King of Staten Island, a semi-autobiographical film that draws on his struggles coping with grief and his own childhood experiences losing his father after 9/11.

He co-wrote the comedy-drama with director and producer Judd Apatow and comedian Dave Sirus, basing the story in part on his own past.

In the film, directed by Judd Apatow, Davidson plays Scott Carlin, a young man who spends his 20s smoking and drinking to cope with the loss of his father.

The story reflects Davidson’s own life and how he decides to pursue a career in comedy.

The King of Staten Island was released on June 12, 2020, and is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
