After registering two consecutive wins, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul heaped praise on Mayank Yadav, who rocked Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with his blistering pace on Tuesday in Chinnaswamy, and quipped that he quite enjoyed it The 21-year-old bowls from 20 yards behind the stumps rather than facing him with bat in hand. Thanks to the top performances of Quinton de Kock, Nicholas Pooran and Mayank, LSG registered a thumping 28-run win at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday in the ongoing 2024 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Mayank set the speed gun on fire again in the ongoing IPL and this time he torched RCB at a blistering speed of 156.7 km per hour, ripping out Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green.

The 21-year-old has turned it around in two consecutive games for LSG. 182 looked a very chaseable target on the Chinnaswamy, but an electric spell of raw pace and pinpoint accuracy meant LSG recorded a comfortable victory. He repeatedly passed the 150 kmph mark (and even increased it to a season-high 156.7 kmph) to stupefy RCB batters, returning with a figure of three for 14.
The LSG captain praised the tear from Delhi and said a ball from Mayank hit him very hard on the glove. Mayank didn’t get a single chance with the LSG team in the last two seasons, largely due to injuries.
“Yes, one ball hit me very hard, but I am so happy to see Mayank bowling the way he has bowled in the last few matches. He waited quietly patiently in the dugout for two seasons and unfortunately missed last year due to injury. But “He has been in Bombay with the physios who have been working very hard. He understands that bowling is not easy and he has had a few injuries at a young age. He’s really professional in looking after his body, it’s really good to watch and has a great temperament. I enjoy watching the bowl from about twenty yards behind the stumps, that’s where I’d like to be when he’s on the bowling is,” Rahul said in a post-match presentation.
The Delhi Tearaway became the sixth bowler in the IPL to take three wickets in two consecutive matches. Mayank started his IPL journey by bagging back-to-back Player of the Match performance awards.
Praising his side’s “generally” good performance, Rahul said: “A very good performance overall. The wicket was a bit tricky and there was some help for the seams. Quinton made sure we had a good start. We were 10-15 runs ahead of what we should have been. The talk was about using the wicket and not the yorkers. It’s important to stay calm. When I look at our record, it speaks differently. ‘
To sum up the match, LSG were put to bat and managed to post a handsome score of 181/5 after Quinton de Kock’s daring 81 from 56 deliveries.
In reply, RCB struggled to forge meaningful partnerships, which led to their demise and sealed a 28-run defeat for the hosts.
With two wins in three matches, LSG will take on 2022 champions Gujarat Titans at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.
