Nuno Espirito Santo has called on Harry Kane to put his summer disappointment behind him amid his slow start to the campaign, as the Spurs boss complained of a lack of time on the training pitch to solve his side’s ‘problems’ .

Nuno is looking for a response from his deviant side, who saw Molineux scoreless in three games after suffering back-to-back defeats 3-0 in the league against Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Of greater concern to Spurs fans is Kane’s slump in form. The England captain has failed to score a goal in the league this season, with some attributing his lack of attacking effort to the fallout from his failed move to Manchester City and an exhausting Euros campaign.

The Portuguese was in no mood to talk about Kane and relied on general answers to fire away questions about his striker, but called on Kane and the club to put the past ‘behind us’ ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

‘That’s the past. Nothing we can say or do in the future will change the past,” Nuno said. “What we have to do with the past is put it behind our heads and put it in the present.

“We need to find the process within the team,” the Spurs boss added to Kane. “It’s all players. All players. We have to tell them and find solutions and find the best way.

‘In the last game Harry started on the left, very high and it went well. Unfortunately we couldn’t score. We have had opportunities for that. We try to reinvent and create situations that can improve our football and our game. Harry is part of the team.”

The Spurs had started the season strong, winning their first three league games, resulting in Portugal’s winning Manager of the Month, but their decline in form is a cause for concern among supporters.

And Nuno says his players are “working very hard” to get the fans on board ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Molineux to meet Wolves in the Carabao Cup.

“Our fans deserve much better than what we did on Sunday,” he told The Athletic. “We are working very hard, but we are positive… The players are committed, we are going to gel, we are going to play better and we are going to improve.”

Tottenham conceded three goals in successive Premier League games in the second half and Nuno said: ‘We all have to improve. We have to improve through the competition, because we don’t have too much time.

“We started this season, very consistent, very solid, clean sheets. Suddenly things have changed. We cannot score and we concede. It tries to find the balance between these two aspects.’

Spurs have been hit by an ever-deepening injury crisis that has stunted Nuno’s progress. The Portuguese was boosted by Son Heung-min’s return to Chelsea, but confirmed Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn will not be available at Wolves.
