Channel Seven Sunrise star and sports reporter Nathan Templeton is in mourning after his tragic death on Wednesday, and the Geelong Cats AFL team has been particularly hit by the news.

The body of the 44-year-old father-of-two was found on a walking trail near the Barwon River in Geelong on Monday night.

Templeton leaves behind his wife Kate and two young sons, Jack and James.

His family said in a statement on Wednesday: “Our hearts are broken for an adoring father and wonderful friend, who will be missed by many.”

Templeton spent six years as the Cats’ announcer and master of ceremonies at their home games and made no secret of his love for the club on social media.

“I’m @GeelongCats and I declare my bias, but I can honestly say I haven’t met a better human being than @joelselwood14. Every time he’s at the Cats cafe, he chats with someone who’s going through a tough time. The big test for anyone is if you do good things when no one is looking and he absolutely does them.’

Templeton’s fellow Channel Seven presenter and football die-hard Rebecca Maddern referenced their shared love of the club as she paid tribute on Wednesday.

“Nathan loved the Geelong Cats as much as I did, we went to the same school, worked in the same network… Rest in peace Nathan,” he wrote.

Sydney Swans football great Jude Bolton was also devastated by the star’s death.
