Moment Distracted Driver Goes Flying Off Steep Cliff in Oregon, and Police Say Victim Was ‘Lucky to Survive’

A car in Oregon slid down the side of a cliff and fell 200 feet down an embankment.

Oregon State Police shared the harrowing images of the crash, writing in a Facebook post that the crash on Highway 224 occurred “after the driver took his eyes off the road.”

In the disconcerting dash cam video, the car approaches a curve in the road but shows no signs of slowing down.

Instead, the car hurtles toward the edge of the highway and through a gap in the tall spruce trees that flank the road.

The video shows the moment the car lifted off the ground, almost as if it had gone off a ramp, and tumbled down the embankment, out of sight.

The incident unfolded in a matter of seconds.

Despite the dangerous fall, the driver managed to get out of the vehicle and, miraculously, suffered only minor injuries.

First responders had to perform a rope rescue to drag the survivor down a 200-foot embankment.

The driver was later rushed to a nearby trauma center for treatment.

On social media, viewers expressed concern about the video’s host.

‘They are fine???’ asked one concerned user.

‘My God! I hope everybody is fine!’ another commented.

And another person wrote ‘I hope you are well.’

‘Please tell me they survived,’ someone else wished.

Other viewers commented on the lack of guardrail on the curvy road.

“The railing would be in order,” noted one user.

“I feel like that path could use a guardrail,” one onlooker observed.

‘GUARDARAILS’, said another simply in capital letters.

‘Why is there no railing?’ asked another.

And some onlookers who knew the driver survived expressed relief and amazement.

‘The driver survived with some injuries, very lucky!’ wrote one user.
