Sydney residents have been left furious following the sudden announcement that a major metro line will close most weekends for the next two months, the first of which will begin on the night of the city’s annual Mardi Gras parade.

The Metro North West line, which travels between Tallawong and Chatswood, will be closed six of eight weekends in March and April, starting Saturday.

Track work will also take place on the T4, T7 and South Coast lines this weekend, with many frustrated locals forced to use bus replacements from Saturday to Sunday.

‘Mardi Gras night. Incredible. Great advance planning. Do you have enough bus drivers this time?’ one person wrote in response to a Sydney Metro post on X.

“T4 closed again, damn we’ve had constant closures over and over again,” said another frustrated customer.

“T4 seems to be closed every weekend, how about you close it for a week and spend some time fixing it instead of this rubbish?” wrote a third.

Passengers are warned to expect extra travel time to reach their destination this weekend.

Sydney Metro has thanked the community for their patience ahead of what is expected to be a frustrating couple of months.

“Sydney Metro will carry out trials over the next two months to ensure its trains and control systems can make a smooth transition between the existing Metro North West line and the city’s new Metro section ahead of its opening this year,” it was reported in a statement. he said on Friday.

Once the expanded line opens, commuters will be able to take a metro service every four minutes between northwest Sydney and the CBD. Sydney Metro claims it will move more people across the harbor at peak rush hour than the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Sydney Harbor Tunnel combined.
