Neil Mitchell cheekily calls out Bill Shorten via Twitter video presenting himself as a ‘genius’: ‘If I did that to you, you’d SHOUT’
- 3AW radio host Neil Mitchell knocked out Bill Shorten
- The duo appeared on The Today Show to talk about the cost of living
- Mr Shorten uploaded part of the interview to Twitter
Top radio broadcaster Neil Mitchell has laughed at Bill Shorten over part of an interview the minister of public services posted on his Twitter account, which he claims was selectively edited.
The pair had a fiery clash during a Today Show segment on Tuesday, with Mitchell unleashing the Labor Party over their proposed pension policy changes, laying down a cap on tax breaks for balances over $3 million as “class warfare.”
Shorten then shared a 46-second clip of the segment on Twitter, where he rips at Mitchell and suggests that the Radio 3AW presenter only cared about the profits of big companies and banks.
That prompted Mitchell to tweet furiously back at Mr Shorten, claiming he only shared part of the debate that made the Labor figure seem like a ‘genius’ – and where the radio presenter’s arguments were not presented fairly.

‘You’ve done it again! Selective editorial. If I did that to you on the air, you’d be right to scream!’ Mitchell exploded.
“Post the whole debate, not just your genius.”
In the video, Mr Shorten told Today presenter Karl Stefanovic: ‘The real problem is we have a cost of living crisis. Mortgage rates are going up. The government is making tough and sincere decisions to try and ease the pressure on families.”
He then responded to Mitchell’s comments, saying, “But there was something Neil said earlier where he kind of said to me that he was criticizing huge profits from the banks, that it’s class war somehow. ‘
“I’m just not going to kneel in front of the top of town and say, ‘Thank you so much for making huge profits, raising food prices, for taking more money out of mortgage rates.'”
During Shorten’s spray, Mitchell groans and rests his head on his hand as Shorten continues the assault.
“Neil, why is it wrong to criticize companies in a time of inflation, where the people who get up this morning to go to work see everything go up, and just say to the companies and the banks, you know hey – just slow down,’ Mr Shorten said.

Mitchell berated Mr Shorten for selectively choosing part of the debate to upload to his Twitter account, making him look good and reflect poorly on the broadcaster

The government services minister was critical of the banks and giant companies making ‘massive profits’ while ordinary Aussies struggled
What was not seen in the clip was Mitchell’s spray on the Albanian government’s “class war.”
“However, I don’t know anything about Bill and the winnings. What are you going to do Bill? Are you going to nationalize everything? Prevent them (companies) from making a profit?’ he said.
“This is part of the class war that you embrace. High profit is not necessarily bad, it means they employ more people, it means the economy is doing well.’
While some Twitter users supported Mitchell’s critique of Shorten, others believed the Labor Secretary was correct in claiming that the radio host was only standing up for the banks and giant corporations rather than ordinary Aussies struggling.
