Mayank Yadav made his debut in the Indian Premier League, two years after being signed at auction by Lucknow Super Giants, and produced a match-winning performance with the ball as his franchise defeated Punjab Kings on Saturday. Mayank tore through the Punjab batting unit and picked up three important wickets. While Mayank made waves for the Super Giants in his maiden IPL outing, his IPL salary also became a big talking point on social media. Going by his performance, it is fair to say that Mayank is not really earning according to what he offers.
The young pacer was signed for a paltry fee of INR 20 lakh in the IPL 2022 auction. He didn’t even feature in a single match that season and was ruled out of the 2023 season due to injury. Expect the young pacer from Delhi to bag a top contract during the IPL 2025 auction.
As for the match, in response to LSG’s 199 runs, PBKS openers Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Naistow started the chase with a positive and aggressive approach. Both batters put on a 50-run partnership in the 5.1 overs. Dhawan hit a boundary off the bowling of left-arm Mohsin Khan.
Dhawan completed his fifty when he hit a six off the bowling of right arm leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi on the fourth ball of the eighth over.
Both openers completed their 100-run partnership when Dhawan pushed the ball for double on the second ball of the 11th bowled by Bishnoi.
Mayank took his first wicket of his IPL career when he dismissed Bairstow on the fourth ball of the 12th over. The right-hander was sent back to the pavilion after scoring 42 runs off just 29 balls, each of which had three fours and three sixes in the innings. He built an excellent partnership of 102 runs with Dhawan.
During the same period as he dismissed Bairstow, the 21-year-old speedster bowled a fiery delivery to the PBKS skipper which read 155.08 kmph.
Soon after the first wicket, the momentum shifted to the LSG side. The young Indian bowler took the wickets of Prabhsimran Singh and wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma in the 14th and 16th over respectively.
The young right-arm pacer ended his first stint of IPL with a figure of 4-0-27-3.
