A man was mauled to death by a lion at an Indian zoo after jumping a 25-foot-high fence to take a selfie with the beast.

The man, identified locally as Prahlad Gujjar, 38, from Alwar in Rajasthan, entered a non-public area of ​​the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park in Andhra Pradesh, ignored a keeper’s warning to stay away from the lion and jumped into the enclosure. Thursday.

Before the keeper had time to react, the Dongalpur lion killed the man.

Investigating authorities are currently conducting an autopsy on the man’s body and are reportedly investigating whether Gujjar was drunk when he jumped the 25-foot-high fence.

Gujjar was alone at the zoo and police are working to contact his family.

The zoo has three lions, including Dongalpur; the others are called Kumar and Sundari.

Dongalpur has been moved to a cage and kept under observation since the deadly attack, which comes just days after a British woman in India drowned in front of her horrified son while they visited a famous seaside temple.

The 84-year-old woman was visiting the southeastern Indian city of Mamallapuram on Monday with her son.

The couple went to a temple located on the coast of the city and visited a beach next door, and both decided to enter the sea of ​​the Bay of Bengal.

Authorities said a strong tide is believed to have carried the woman away from the beach.

Her son was unsuccessful in his attempts to rescue her and an hour later her body washed ashore.

After the police were notified of the incident, they sent his body to the Government Hospital, Chengalpattu, approximately 18 miles away.

Local media reported that police are preparing to bring his body back to the UK.
