Brazilian forward Luiz Adriano knocked over a cyclist while shopping after escaping isolation after a positive Covid-19 test – before attempting to excuse his actions by saying he was wearing a mask.

The former AC Milan and Shakhtar Donetsk player, now with Palmeiras in his home country, was found positive for the virus in routine tests at his club on Monday.

The 33-year-old was to be quarantined at home for 10 days, in accordance with the club’s rules, despite being asymptomatic.

In a Twitter video showing the aftermath of the collision, Luiz Adriano can be seen (left) treating the cyclist he hit with his car (right) for facial injuries

But, as he explained in an Instagram post, Adriano left the house to drive his mom to a mall to go shopping.

Although the player insisted that he wear a mask and not leave his car, he collided with a bicycle when exiting the parking lot and left the rider treatment for a bloody face.

A Twitter video appeared in which Adriano is standing on the sidewalk while the cyclist is lying on the ground and being treated by a paramedic.

Adriano admitted his error of judgment on Wednesday in an Instagram post, writing, ‘I was ordered to stay in a quarantined house … but yesterday I went to the grocery store in the mall to take my mom who can’t driving without leaving my car and wearing a mask.

‘But I got involved in an accident where a bicycle hit the car at the exit of the parking lot.

He has been fined for his violation of Covid-19 with the money donated to a food charity.

A spokesperson for the player said AS: “He did not drive recklessly, he gave all the support and attention to the victim, who is recovering and in good condition.”

Brazil has been hit very hard by Covid-19 with the death toll of more than 313,000 people in second place to the United States worldwide. There are more than 13 million cases of the virus in the country.
