EXCLUSIVE: TV expert reveals why Karl Stefanovic is the answer to Channel Nine's prayers – amid messages, the fired host will return to the Today show with Allison Langdon
Karl Stefanovic could be the magic bullet that Channel Nine desperately needs to save the Today show from his ratings, according to a television expert.
Rob McKnight, the former executive producer of Studio 10 and editor of the industry website TV Blackbox, Daily Mail told Australia that Today may again be competitive with Sunrise if Karl returns and the format is revised.
& # 39; Karl will give the Today show a much needed boost, but producers will have to make more changes to retain viewers, & # 39; McKnight said Thursday.
Is the golden boy coming back? Karl Stefanovic could be the magic bullet Nine desperately needs to save the Today show from collapsing reviews, according to a television expert
& # 39; Karl & # 39; s great personality hid many of the problems with the show and Nine must be smart and the format evolve with the relaunch of Karl, & # 39; he continued.
McKnight, who previously worked for Channel Nine, insisted that Karl never & # 39; the problem & # 39; was when Today lost viewers between 2017 and 2018.
& # 39; He may have experienced some problems, but he was loved by the public, & # 39; he said, referring to how Karl was fired as host in December after network bosses had blamed his tumultuous personal life for falling ratings.

& # 39; NAIL IN THE COFFIN & # 39 ;: THE WORST REVIEWS OF TODAY EVER
The Today show got the lowest ratings ever last week.
Viewers of the struggling breakfast show dropped to just 155,000 on Friday, with the poor figures branded as & # 39; the nail in the box & # 39; for the current crew of Georgie Gardner, Deb Knight and Tom Steinfort.
Last Wednesday, the program managed to secure only 163,000 viewers, considerably less than 277,000 from rival Sunrise.
In April, Today was even defeated by Seven & # 39; s second-rank offer, The Morning Show, which was broadcast from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
About whom Karl should be co-host today, McKnight said that 60-minute reporter Allison Langdon would fit perfectly.
& # 39; Chemistry is everything in this game and it was not clear to everyone (Karl & # 39; s) collaboration with Georgia from the start, & # 39; he said.
& # 39; Allison Langdon will prove to be a good partner for Karl and will run him for his money, but she will also work very well with him. & # 39;
It comes afterwards The Australian reported Tuesday that Nine & # 39; s CEO, Hugh Marks, wants to restore Karl to Today next year in an effort to stop the ever-sliding viewing figures.
However, Karl, who earns $ 2 million a year, will & # 39; hundreds of thousands & # 39; of his salary to return.

The journalist was kicked out of the program on December 19, 2018 after 14 years in the role, just days after his lavish Mexican wedding with fashion designer Jasmine Yarbrough, 35.
The wedding, including a magazine deal with a rival company, would have been the last straw with Nine's management after years of negative press after the end of Karl & # 39; s first marriage to Cassandra Thorburn in mid-2016.
Following on from Karl, today's new hosts, Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight, are struggling to get traction against Channel Seven & # 39; s Sunrise, with Nine & # 39; s breakfast show ratings reaching a low of 155,000 last Friday. This was almost half of Sunrise's 277,000.

For comparison, today's ratings hovered around 300,000 during 2016 and 2017 when Karl and Lisa Wilkinson hosted, who moved to Channel 10 & The Project after a salary dispute.
Karl spoke with Nova FM & # 39; s Fitzy & Wippa on Friday and confessed that he got back his old job.
& # 39; I keep trying to tell Channel Nine that I am the lucky charm & # 39 ;, he said. & # 39; If they want to fill me up and send me in, I'm ready to go in and we'll win. & # 39;
