India, Thailand Discuss Measures To Strengthen Navy-to-Navy Cooperation

Navy Chief of Staff Admiral R. Hari Kumar held a meeting with his visiting Thai counterpart Admiral Adoong Paan-Iam on Monday and discussed measures to further strengthen naval-navy cooperation.

Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, is on an official visit to India from April 1 to 3.

His visit to India is a testament to strong “bilateral relations and enduring friendship” between the navies of India and Thailand, the MEA said.

He will also call on the Chief of the Defense Staff, the Chief of the Air Force, the Minister of Defense and the National Maritime Security Coordinator.

“To further deepen defense cooperation between both countries, Admiral Adoong Pan-Iam will meet with officials from India’s defense industry and the Ministry of Defense Production in New Delhi,” the MEA message said.

“After this, an interactive session is also planned with Indian Navy officials from the Warship Design Bureau to explore current trends in shipbuilding and identify future opportunities, including the scope of ship maintenance and repairs in India,” it added.

The navies of India and Thailand have been conducting regular coordinated patrols on a biannual basis since 2005, and the first bilateral IN-RTN exercise, namely Ex-Ayutthaya, was held on December 23 last year.

Recently, a Royal Thai Navy ship, HTMS Prachup Kheri Khan, participated in MILAN 24, held in February 2024 in Visakhapatnam. The two navies are also active members of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) and the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA).
