Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said China has been making baseless claims about Arunachal Pradesh.

New Delhi:

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the renaming of several areas in Arunachal Pradesh by China and said China’s baseless claims will not change the reality on the ground.

“I strongly condemn the illegal ‘standardized’ geographical names given by China to 30 places in Arunachal Pradesh. China has made all kinds of baseless claims, but that will not change the reality and ‘historical facts’,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday condemned China’s renaming of several areas in Arunachal Pradesh and urged the Center to reprimand China’s actions, while calling Beijing’s action “ridiculous”.

Citing a media report mentioning China’s renaming of several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, Congress leader Kharge said when China resorts to such provocations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to take refuge by creating a false narrative about Katchatheevu .

In particular, the decades-old dispute over territorial and fishing rights around Katchatheevu Island is in the spotlight ahead of Tamil Nadu’s April 19 Lok Sabha polls, with the BJP and the Opposition locked in a war of words over the matter.

Prime Minister Modi on Monday targeted the Congress Party and DMK over the Katchatheevu Island issue. He said Congress gave away the island “heartlessly.” He also alleged that the ruling party of Tamil Nadu was doing “nothing” to safeguard the interests of the state.

“Eye-opening and startling! New facts reveal how Congress gave away #Katchatheevu in a heartwarming manner. This has angered every Indian and reaffirmed in people’s minds that we can never trust Congress! Weakening India’s unity, integrity and interests has been Congress’s way of working for 75 years and counting,” Prime Minister Modi said in a post on X on Sunday, referring to a media report.
