IHOP is back to offering all-you-can-eat pancakes (and you might even be able to get them for free).
The breakfast-focused chain, with about 1,700 locations in the U.S., is reintroducing the offering in time for the back-to-school season, running through Sept. 15.
Officials at the International House of Pancakes say the goal is to “help families when schedules are tight and wallets are tight from shopping.” The deal typically runs in January.
There are two variations of the offer: order a breakfast combo and enjoy unlimited pancakes to go with it.
Or, if you just want pancakes, pay $5 for an unlimited supply.

Either way, the first serving is a small pile and then additional servings are served two at a time. The idea is to reduce food waste.
The offer is limited to buttermilk pancakes and is only for dine-in customers.
A small stack of pancakes alone typically costs around $8 to $12 depending on location.
In addition to the all-you-can-eat pancakes, IHOP earlier this month rolled out its Original and Butter Pecan syrup flavors in supermarkets nationwide.
The chain has partnered with Kraft Heinz to “revolutionize the breakfast aisle with a delicious syrup for breakfast items like pancakes, waffles and French toast.”
IHOP’s Candice Jacobson said, “Pancakes and syrup are what we do best, and expanding our partnership with Kraft Heinz to develop IHOP syrups for retail was just a no-brainer.”
Fast food deals are on the rise
Chains have been hit by falling customer numbers as Americans, fed up with two years of price increases, have stayed away from restaurants. That’s why so many cheap fast-food items are hitting the market this summer.
Burger King’s $5 Your Way Meal: Choice of one of three sandwiches plus four chicken nuggets, fries and a soft drink. It was the first to arrive in restaurants in June.

McDonald’s offer is similar and includes a McChicken or a McDouble, four chicken nuggets, fries and a drink for $5.
Initially implemented for four weeks, it has now been extended to the rest of the summer in most restaurants.
Wendy’s has a $3 breakfast deal and also a four-item meal for $5 similar to McDonald’s and BK’s.
McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s were all outsold by $4 by smaller national chain Krispy Krunchy Chicken.
Starbucks also made a surprise entry into the value wars with a $5 coffee-and-breakfast-food combo.
