In the harrowing incident captured on dashcam, Radu loses control of the Tesla as it spins and narrowly misses the edge of a mountain cliff.

“We lost control of the car,” Radu said. “The car went into the mountain and at one point I could barely stop it.”

But the couple was shocked to see that the Jeep driver had fled the scene, leaving the Stefans stranded without a cell phone signal.

“We saw in the rearview mirror the people who hit us, they just left.”

Good Samaritans had to call the Rangers to help the traumatized couple.

“Some people stopped to try to help us,” Radu said. “We had no cell phone reception at that location, so someone went and called the Rangers.”

In April, U.S. auto safety regulators revealed that Tesla’s Autopilot feature was involved in at least 13 fatal crashes, after conducting an investigation into the feature that began in August 2021.

It is unclear whether the Tesla driver was using the autopilot feature when he was hit head-on by the Jeep.

Details of why the Jeep collided with the Tesla are still under investigation.
