This is the heartbreaking moment several diners cheated death after a Mercedes driver crashed his car into a restaurant in the heart of Delhi.

CCTV footage taken from inside Fateh Ki Kachori, a shop on Delhi’s Rajpur Road, showed a white Mercedes Benz crashing into the packed restaurant.

At least five people were injured in the accident and were taken to the nearby Tirth Ram Hospital. The Times of India reported that some of them suffered serious fractures.

Diners were seen turning toward the speeding car moments before it crashed into the front of the store.

Glass and food were thrown throughout the establishment and the car ran over several people.

The car can then be seen slowly leaving the restaurant, known for serving kachori, a fried snack popular in India.

As he leaves, a concerned diner can be seen urging the driver, since identified as lawyer Parag Maini, 36, to stop in case there were people trapped under the car.

After making sure no one is under the car, the driver slowly exits the shop, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake.

Diners were seen hugging each other and making sure everyone was safe. One man had to be pulled out by two others, after taking the brunt of the collision.

Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner Manoj Meena told local media that police found the Mercedes damaged. It was also reported that Maini’s wife was also in the car at the time of the accident.

He added that charges of careless driving and negligently endangering human life were brought against Maini, who reportedly lives in nearby Noida, and that his car was seized.

A preliminary investigation revealed that he was not under the influence of alcohol, although his blood sample was kept on file for “analysis.”
