Ayodhya’s grand Ram temple today witnessed its first Holi celebration since its inauguration in January this year. A large number of devotees gathered early in the morning to participate in the festivities where colors and sweets were offered to the Ram Lalla idol that adorned the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.

The temple priests engaged in a ceremonial game of Holi, accompanied by the traditional offerings of abir And Good as part of Raag Bhog rituals. In addition, a series of 56 dishes were presented as prasad for the idol.

“Ramlalla celebrating his first Holi after his ordination in the temple. His charming idol was decorated with flowers, Gulaal is applied to the forehead. On this occasion, the idol of Ram Lalla wore a pink dress,” said Acharya Satyendra Das, chief priest of the temple.

The temple priests along with the devotees sang Holi songs and danced in front of the idol in celebration.

The festivities extended beyond the boundaries of the temple. Devotees gathered in large numbers outside the temple premises to celebrate Rangotsav as Holi fever gripped the ancient city of Ayodhya.

The Ram Temple was opened to the public on January 23, a day after the much-celebrated dedication ceremony, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and attended by a host of politicians and celebrities.

The construction of the Ram temple began after a protracted legal battle that ended with the Supreme Court ruling in favor of the temple in November 2019. Prime Minister Modi, in an address to the nation, had stated that the consecration of Ram Lalla’s idol marks the arrival was of a new era.
