Erik ten Hag’s key summer targets: Frenkie De Jong, Jurrien Timber, Antony, Christian Eriksen
Erik ten Hag’s five purchases to transform Man United: Frenkie De Jong, Jurrien Timber, Antony, Christian Eriksen – and a reserve keeper – ‘form new boss’ five-man transfer target list’ with money ‘no objection’
Manchester United’s new manager Erik ten Hag has outlined the five signings he believes will transform the club this summer.
The Dutch manager has identified Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Brentford playmaker Christian Eriksen and Ajax pair Jurrien Timber and Antony, as well as a backup goalkeeper, according to the Manchester Evening News†
And while that may read like an expensive shopping list for the Premier League giants, Richard Arnold has said ‘money is not a consideration’ in Manchester United’s hunt for Frenkie de Jong, as he targeted the way Ed Woodward handled transfers in a sensational exchange with a group of United supporters in a pub in Cheshire.
Erik ten Hag has supposedly identified the five purchases he wants Manchester United to make
Frenkie de Jong is a priority for ten Hag
After signing club legend Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho last summer, United had a promising start to the season before crumbling to finish sixth with the lowest points total since 1989-90.
United’s interest in de Jong has been well documented, as the two clubs have been in disagreement over a fee for the 25-year-old Dutchman for some time now.
About De Jong, who estimates Barcelona at 69 million pounds, Arnold told the fans: “Money does not matter who we want.
“It’s that the manager wants him, that they’ve done the work to see if he’s a great player.
‘Is it £100 million or £200 million? I don’t know. Get who the fuck you want.
‘Do you want me to buy the players? Doesn’t that ring a bell?’
According to the Twitter of one of the fans who spoke to Arnold, the United chief also said: “United officials are in Barcelona to finalize the deal for De Jong.
New manager Erik ten Hag has designated ex-Ajax man De Jong as his number 1 summer target
Christian Eriksen impressed for Brentford
“As a club we are doing everything we can to get the deal done, I’ve been working on it for days now. The money is there, but there are things standing in the way that I can’t say.”
The Dutch international could join several Ajax players, old and current, at Old Trafford if ten Hag gets the chance to achieve his goals.
Christian Eriksen is another target in midfield as ten Hag wants to completely renew his midfield after the departures of Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and of course Paul Pogba.
The Danish midfielder will likely be a cheaper option than the other names on ten Hag’s list, as his six-month contract with Brentford expires this summer and he is widely expected to leave the West London club.
Antony (left) played a big part in Ajax’s title campaign, while Jurrien Timber (center), like the Brazilian, is also linked with a move to Manchester United this summer.
After coaching both Antony and Timber during his time at Ajax, ten Hag would like to take the pair to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have been linked with a £51million transfer for the Brazilian winger, although they are now reportedly under pressure from Tottenham and Antonio Conte eager to add the 22-year-old to his growing list of summer arrivals.
Antony enjoyed a successful season with the Eredivisie title winners, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in Ten Hag’s last season with the club, sparking interest from many of Europe’s top clubs.
Timber’s move to United may already be over, while Antony has caught Antonio Conte’s attention
Reports in The sun claimed Timber was on the cusp of signing a £30million transfer deal with United to reunite with the manager who had great confidence in him at a young age.
However, the move already seems to have encountered stumbling blocks after former United boss Louis van Gaal suggested his career with the national team could be hampered by a move to Old Trafford.
Timber himself also had doubts about the move after the Netherlands’ recent 3-2 win over Wales. He said: ‘You’re always flattered when teams show an interest in you… but I’m currently at the biggest club in the world and I feel great there, so no news.’
