Erica Fernandes recently opened up about her journey in the entertainment industry and shed light on the challenges she faced while transitioning from television to films. Erica Fernandes discussed several factors, such as nepotism and societal perceptions of appearance, that affected her career prospects, leading to instances of disappointment and missed opportunities. In an interview with Galatta India, Erica Fernandes shared a specific incident from her experience in the South Indian film industry, where she was initially cast in a project but later found out through media reports that she had been replaced by a “familiar face”.

Erica Fernandes reflected on the prevalence of nepotism in the industry and how this often led to opportunities slipping away, with roles being assigned to individuals with established connections or family ties in the industry. She said, “There was a time when I was in a South film which I shot for two to three days and then I heard through the media that I had been replaced. On the other hand, I have been asked questions about ‘why not Bollywood’. There have been times when you go in for an audition, you get to the point where it’s right, almost final, and then you’re replaced by someone who’s a famous face or someone who’s the child of a famous face; Nepotism happens.”

Moreover, Erica Fernandes opened up about the criticism she faced regarding her appearance, revealing how body-shaming comments affected her self-esteem during her formative years. “‘I know what I’ve had to deal with in the past. I’ve been through a lot because I was skinny, and it’s cost me a lot of projects. It’s cost me my self-esteem. But then again, you see, with That kind of rejections and everything that happened only made me stronger. It only helped me deal with things in a better way,” says Erica Fernandes.

Speaking about the transition from film to television, Erica said she is committed to her craft regardless of medium. She said: “And those all contribute to whatever experience you have, or how you move on to whatever comes next. So when I went from film to TV again, people asked me why you go from film to TV. For me: That didn’t matter, because to me, my work is my work, and I’m proud of my work, no matter what platform or format. I came to television.”
