Do you call yourself a retriever? Daft dog pokes his nose under the fence and stares at the ball – instead of running through an open gate just a few feet away to get it
- Molly Kuekes, 29, from North Carolina, plays fetch with her dog Eden
- Five-year-old dog stuck his nose under the backyard fence to try to get the ball
- She kept staring at the ball and saw no open gate just a few feet away
This is when a silly dog desperately tried to reach her ball through the hole under a fence – completely ignoring the open gate a few steps away.
Molly Kuekes, 29, from Charlotte, North Carolina, played with her five-year-old dog Eden in her backyard when the ball rolled under a fence.
Despite there being 15 other toys in the yard, Mrs. Kuekes’ “ball-obsessed” golden retriever stuck her nose through the fence and desperately tried to reach the tennis ball, a painful few inches from her snout.
After filming her ‘dramatic’ dog staring in despair at the ball, Kuekes then turned to reveal a wide open gate just a few yards away from Eden.

Ms. Kuekes said: ‘This is a great example of a very ball-obsessed retriever hyperfocused on a tennis ball.
“Eden sat staring at it for maybe 15 seconds before I started filming. She always does these kinds of things.
However, this was the first time she did it next to an open gate. She was so focused on the missing ball that she didn’t even notice the gate was open.
‘When fetching, we often let tennis balls go over the fence to the neighbor’s yard.
“When that happens, nothing else in the world matters except that one missing tennis ball.

Mrs Kuekes (pictured with Eden) described how the dog was her ‘best friend’ and ‘we do everything together’
“Even though we have 15 other tennis balls in our yard, she’s so hyper-focused on the one she can’t reach.
“She stays by the fence and whines, barks, digs or lays there until someone goes to get that one ball.
“I laughed hysterically when I saw what she was doing. Just when I finished filming I threw the ball back to her and all was well again.
“Eden is my best friend and we do everything together with her puppy brother Bowser.”
After sharing the comedic images on Instagram, Ms. Kuekes has garnered more than 65,000 likes from amused viewers, many of whom describe Eden as “dramatic.”
Molly responded by saying her dog “deserves an Oscar.”
Another said: ‘This made me burst out laughing! So typical.’
One added: ‘So close and yet so far…’
And another social media user wrote, “The struggle is real.”
