Dave Hughes had an awkward on-air row with Jimmy Rees on Wednesday after the comedian boasted about receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia.
Hughes, 53, was chatting to Rees, 37, on 2Day FM’s Hughesy, Ed and Erin about the OAM’s reception earlier this week at the King’s Birthday Honours.
The veteran radio host joked that he was “very bitter” about not receiving the award, when the conversation suddenly became heated.
“I think someone has to nominate you. How many million people are there in Australia and not a single person nominated you?” Jimmy responded jokingly.
Dave then cheekily added that Jimmy may have received a nomination due to his numerous endorsement deals, which included Woolworths and Hungry Jacks.

“I think that’s a little rich coming from you, a commercial radio station where you talk for three minutes and then you have eight hours of ads,” Jimmy replied.
Co-host Ed Kavalee then began congratulating Rees on the award, prompting an upset Hughes to respond: “You’re happy because he won it and I didn’t.”
Earlier this week, comedians Rees and Hamish Blake were among 737 people recognized in the King’s Birthday Honours.

Jimmy, who delighted children for more than a decade as Jimmy Giggle on ABC’s flagship children’s show Giggle and Hoot, shared his amazement on Instagram.
‘I never thought this would come my way… you know the guy who talked to owls in his pajamas and now makes stupid videos!’
‘To the people who nominated and approved me, the Governor General, I’m not sure how the process works, thank you, I’m very honoured!!’ he continued.
‘Well, now I suppose we’re going to have a beer with the Governor-General and the King? Is that what happens? Is there a secret OAM, an underground lair? she joked.

Since leaving children’s entertainment, Rees has found viral success through his comedy, performing sketches on Instagram and entertaining a whole new generation of Australians during lockdown.
Since February this year, Rees has been touring his comedy show ‘Let’s Get Regional’, bringing his comedy to cities across Australia.
Other notable names honored include cricket legend Glenn McGrath, former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, former WA Premier Mark McGowan and newly appointed Governor-General Sam Mostyn.
