After his 85-run knock against Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowling all-rounder Sunil Narine said cricket is all about batting. Opening for the Kolkata franchise, Narine played a knock of 85 runs off just 39 balls at a strike rate of 217.95. The Caribbean all-rounder hit seven fours and sixes during his time at the crease. During the post-match presentation, Narine said he was keen to contribute with the bat. However, the 35-year-old added that he enjoys bowling.
When asked about opening with Philip Salt for KKR, he added that the England batsman takes pressure off his partner.
“Cricket is all about batting, so contributing with the bat is nice, but I also enjoy my bowling. (On beating the order with Abu Dhabi Knight Riders) We had enough batters so the opening wasn’t necessary then .At the end of the day it’s about what the team needs. Batting with Salt is good, he takes the pressure off me so it’s good to bat with him. On such a good wicket we bowled well and we were on the money, so a total team effort from us tonight,” said Narine.
In summary, KKR’s target of 273 proved too high for DC as they gave in to pressure and ultimately suffered a 106-run defeat.
The pace duo of Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora took two wickets each to reduce DC to 33/4 in the powerplay.
These early blows derailed DC’s approach to chasing down the huge total, becoming more challenging with each delivery.
Ultimately, the required pace proved too high as they ultimately suffered a 106-point defeat.
