Supriya Shrinate has said that the offensive posts on social media were posted without her knowledge

Under fire for her derogatory social media posts about actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate today wondered whether the BJP would speak out on MP Dilip Ghosh’s insulting comments on Trinamool chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
“Dilip Ghosh is the former leader of the Bengal BJP and the MP from Medinipur. He is frustrated after being sidelined and fielded by (Bardhaman) Durgapur against (Trinamool’s) Kirti Azad. In an insulting comment, he has asked ‘who is Mamata Banerjee’s father,” Supriya Shrinate posted on
Ms Shrinate also asked whether the BJP will remain silent on the wrestlers’ sexual harassment allegations against MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
During the campaign, Mr Ghosh created a huge row with his comment about Ms Banerjee. “Didi goes to Goa and says, ‘I am Goa’s daughter’, then goes to Tripura and says, ‘I am Tripura’s daughter’. Decide who your father is. It is not good to be just anyone’s daughter,” he says. in a video that has now gone viral.
The comments have drawn a sharp response from the Trinamool Congress, which says Mr Ghosh is “ventilating his frustration” after being “expelled” from the Medinipur constituency he currently represents and appointed from another seat.
Trinamool leader Sushmita Dev referred to the row over derogatory comments made by Ms Ranaut. “The BJP is making big speeches (on the Kangana Ranaut issue), but its leaders’ comments in front of the country’s only woman Prime Minister are against our political traditions. I want to ask the head of the National Commission for Women if you are so concerned about the BJP’s candidate, but you remain silent when BJP insults Mamata Banerjee. You should be ashamed of yourself,” she said.
Ms Ranaut, the BJP candidate from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, has approached Ms Shrinate over the social media posts from her profiles.
The ‘Queen’ actor has said that she has played several female roles, “from a prostitute in Rajjo to a revolutionary leader in Thalaivii”.
“We must free our daughters from the shackles of prejudice, we must rise above curiosity about their body parts and, above all, we must refrain from using the challenging lives or circumstances of sex workers as a form of abuse or defamation… every woman deserves her dignity,” she said.
Faced with a huge backlash, Ms Shrinate issued a clarification, saying she had deleted the “inappropriate posts” that she said were posted on her social media without her knowledge. “Many people have access to my Facebook and Instagram accounts. One of them posted a highly inappropriate post today. As soon as I became aware of this, I deleted that post. Anyone who knows me also knows very well that I can never take it personally and indecent comments towards any woman,” she said.
The comments have drawn a strong response from the National Commission for Women. “Such behavior is intolerable and goes against the dignity of women. (NCW Chairman) has written to the Election Commissioner of India demanding immediate and strict action against them. Let us uphold the respect and dignity of all women,” the panel said. .
