Palghar:
A week after a 21-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Palghar district was found hanging, the man she was in a relationship with has been charged with abetment to suicide, police said on Monday.
The man, Sameer Pandurang Pawar, a resident of Vikramgad in the district, was arrested on Sunday under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment to suicide) based on a complaint by the woman’s mother, they said.
The woman was found hanging from a tree on March 18. Investigation revealed that the victim and suspect had frequent telephone conversations, often marred by disputes and suspicions about the victim’s character, they said.
The woman’s mother emphasized that her daughter was in a committed relationship with the suspects for the past three years and that they were planning to get married, police said, citing the complaint.
Therefore, she said her daughter’s alleged suicide seemed unlikely as she attributed her death to the suspect’s suspicious behavior and frequent arguments, they said.
