The sister of former Australian cricketer Carl Rackemann was allegedly murdered by her son in a Brisbane home, Queensland police have revealed.

Carl Rackemann is a former fast bowler who played 12 Tests for Australia in a 17-year career that began in 1979 and later coached the Zimbabwe national team.

His sister Suzy, 61, suffered critical head injuries during an alleged attack at her home in Upper Kedron at around 5.45am on August 17.

Mrs. Rackemann died in hospital nine days later.

His son Conor Robert Rackemann, 29, was initially charged with one count of serious bodily injury, a domestic violence offense.

But police have now revealed that the charge has been upgraded to a charge of murder, a domestic violence offence.

“Following extensive investigations by the Ferny Grove Criminal Investigation Division, including its newly formed DFV team, his charge was upgraded to a charge of murder, a domestic violence offence,” a police spokesperson said.

Ms Rackemann was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition after the alleged attack, but died from her injuries on August 26.
