A man convicted of the “appalling” gang rape of three teenagers at a Bucks party in Newcastle has reportedly been beaten by an inmate in prison.
Marius Hawell, 23, was sentenced last month to nine years in prison for the gang rape of three women during his brother’s party in February 2022.
The inmate was attacked in prison in August this year, according to a psychological report submitted on behalf of his older brother, Maurice Hawell, 30.
“Last week I found out that my brother (Marius) had been beaten and had a broken nose,” Maurice Hawell told a psychologist in a report presented at the sentencing process and obtained by news.com.au.
“The people who beat him said I’ll be next.”
A jail source told the publication that Marius was “beaten by another inmate in a housing wing” of the facility.
The 23-year-old was treated by medical personnel on site and did not require hospital treatment. No one was charged over the incident.
Marius’ older brother and boyfriend, Maurice, was sentenced to 14 years and his best man, Andrew David, 30, was jailed for 13 years for sexual assaults described by the judge as “degrading and atrocious”.

Maurice married his cousin, Loubna Yousif, just a few weeks after the Bucks party.
Three women testified at a trial in June in the New South Wales District Court over being invited back to an Airbnb by the two Hawell brothers, where David and others were staying before they were attacked.
The incidents took place over two nights that Sydney’s friends stayed in Newcastle, and a jury found that two women were raped on the first night and another on the second.
Two 18-year-olds, who met Maurice at the Cambridge Hotel on the first night, returned to the rented Airbnb for their bachelor party and were sexually assaulted by several men in a dark room.
A 19-year-old woman invited to an Airbnb on the second night was taken to a bedroom and raped by two men, and believed a third entered the room to watch.
A few weeks later, in April 2022, the two brothers Hawell and David were photographed at the glittering wedding where Maurice married his cousin, Loubna Yousif.
The boyfriend was arrested and charged the following month, while Marius and David were arrested in June 2022.
Judge O’Rourke said the conduct of the Hawells and David contrasted “starkly with the way their mothers, wives, girlfriends and sisters had described them”.
“They are three young, intelligent, successful and highly educated professionals who come from loving Christian families, who treat their own sisters, mothers and colleagues with respect and love,” he said.

“And yet, this weekend, they were able, with a pack mentality, to treat three young women in this cold, callous, degrading and criminal manner.”
Judge O’Rourke said one of the women, all of whom were teenagers at the time, was treated as “an object… not as a young woman who deserved to be treated with dignity.”
All three men maintained their innocence, with Maurice and David insisting it was consensual, while Marius denied having had sex.
They were convicted by a jury of multiple counts of aggravated sexual assault in a business, aggravated sexual assault in a business, and attempt to commit sexual assault in a business.
The judge imposed a minimum sentence of five years and five months on Marius, meaning he will be eligible for parole in December 2029.
