Brisbane Broncos coach Michael Maguire has guaranteed the club will not sack troubled star Ezra Mam after he was charged with drug driving and entered rehab.
The five-eighth signed a five-year, $4 million deal in February and there has been speculation the deal would fall apart after Queensland police alleged he tested positive for an illegal substance in two samples taken after his head-on collision with an Uber last month.
On Friday, Maguire was asked if the 21-year-old had played his last game for the club and said: “No, he hasn’t.”
‘We need to make sure we are slow in our decisions because we have to see everything as it is.
“It’s a big incident and not taken lightly, but Ezra is working on himself and making sure he follows his process.
“We will need to connect with everyone who was involved in that accident.”
Broncos coach Michael Maguire is convinced Ezra Mam will remain at the club despite serious charges hanging over his head.
Mom (pictured) expressed remorse and was admitted to rehab after her car collided with an Uber on October 18; Police alleged he had an illegal drug in his system at the time.
Maguire also told the radio 4 BC that everyone in the Broncos organization has to “take responsibility for what’s happening.”
Police charged Mam with drug driving on Wednesday after he allegedly tested positive for an illegal drug after crashing his car into another vehicle on October 18, leaving him at risk of a major ban from the NRL.
The 21-year-old was ordered to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on December 16 after charges were laid on Wednesday.
Mum also received a traffic offense notice for failing to maintain vehicle control during the collision in Brisbane, in which her Ford Ranger collided head-on with an Uber.
Police gave the five-eighths star a roadside drug test after the incident and it reportedly returned a positive result.
He underwent further tests at the hospital to confirm the first result. The second sample reportedly tested positive on Tuesday.
Mam has been charged with one count of driving while the relevant drug is present in the blood and one count of operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.
He was reportedly moving house when the accident occurred in the northern Brisbane suburb of Bardon.
Mom’s Ford Ranger (pictured) collided with an Uber, and the car’s passenger claimed she and her four-year-old daughter had to be hospitalized as a result.
The five-eighth was also involved in an off-field controversy with teammate Reece Walsh (pictured together) in Bali during an end-of-season holiday this year.
Mom broke her silence about the charges on Thursday.
“I understand the seriousness of the situation,” he said. news corporation.
‘I understand how important it is for me to stand up and take responsibility for my actions.
‘I will cooperate with the upcoming legal process.
“I also understand my responsibilities as a role model in the community and am prepared to work hard to live up to those expectations in the future.”
The passengers of the Uber that collided with Mom’s Ford Ranger in the accident were a mother and daughter.
The mother claimed that she and her four-year-old daughter were hospitalized after the accident, and the girl suffered a broken hip in the collision.
Mam is being investigated by the NRL Integrity Unit over the incident.
Mam’s teammate and good friend Reece Walsh pleaded with the club not to sack the playmaker earlier this month.
“I feel for Ezra, he’s an amazing person to begin with,” Walsh said.
“He is going through a difficult time at the moment and everyone at this club feels for him.
‘They know who Ezra is and how loving he is. We have his back and it’s important that we are there for him and support him.
“He will take the necessary steps to get back on the right path.”
It is the second time Mam has been involved in an off-field incident this year with young star and fullback Reece Walsh investigated by the NRL following an altercation with fans in Bali while on holiday.
