Every week, FEMAIL asks two singles to report on their blind date.
This week, it’s the turn of Paij, 32, and Rahat, 39, but is romance on the cards for these two hopefuls?
Paij, 32
Single for two and a half years, no children.
Current role: Entrepreneur and data coordinator.
Would like meet up: A creative, motivated man with a positive mindset and good humor.
Paij’s ideal man will be creative, motivated, and have a positive outlook on life, unlike some of the emotionally unavailable men she has dated in the past.
Dating people from the past
I’ve had two serious relationships and previously dated emotionally unavailable men due to my own insecurities. I assumed that by 23 I’d have the house, the car, the fabulous job and a child, but life doesn’t flow that way. Now, at 32, I’m not sure I want children and it hasn’t helped that I’ve also met a lot of frogs.
Pre-date jitters?
No, I was feeling optimistic. I’d never been on a blind date before, but I do enjoy dating TV shows.
First impressions?
I couldn’t remember his name! It’s so embarrassing, but I’m terrible with names. Physically, he’s not my type. I prefer tall, muscular men. He was dressed a little too casually for a first date, in jeans and a long-sleeved t-shirt. However, he was friendly and seemed like a sociable guy.
Easy to talk to?
We talked about our favorite TV shows when we were kids, like Scooby Doo. While Rahat (thanks) (just to remind you) he didn’t ask me about my previous relationships, I talked about his. All he said was that his last relationship didn’t end well, so he’s been single for a long time. I wondered if he was ready for a relationship since he’s a full-time teacher and also works in his spare time. That’s not a red flag for me though, I respect enterprising people.
Embarrassing moments?
I ordered tomato soup, but when it was brought to me there was no liquid in the container. I panicked for a moment, before realizing that the waiter had it in a separate jug to serve at the table. Rahat and I laughed and agreed that it was the most elegant tomato soup we had ever seen.
Did sparks fly?
Although Rahat is a fan of romantic comedies, he was not bringing anything new to the table. Romance for me. To be honest, I was put off by the fact that he talked with his mouth full. It’s a turn-off for me. If you have to, at least put your hand over your mouth while you talk.
Do you see it again?
No, and we didn’t exchange numbers either. When we finished eating, we walked together to the station. I get nervous on public transport when it’s busy, but I managed to get off at his stop to give him a goodbye hug before getting back on.
What do you think he thought of you?
I have no idea. I don’t think he flirted with me, but I do think he would say we had a good time together.
Would your family and friends like it?
Maybe, I’m not sure. If you pushed me, you’d say he’s a cool guy and a people person, but he’s not for me.
Paij’s verdict: 7/10
Appreciated? Rahat’s ambition.
Regrets? Forgetting Rahat’s name.
Coffee or taxi? Cab.
Rahat, 39
Single for a year, no children.
Current role: Physical Education Teacher.
Would like meet up: Someone adventurous, a gym enthusiast with a good Personality. My ideal The woman is Jennifer Lopez.
Rahat says his ideal woman is Jennifer Lopez: he looks for someone with a good personality, who goes to the gym and is adventurous.
Dating people from the past
I haven’t had a long-term relationship because I’ve been focused on my career, but for the right woman I’d make time. I’d like to settle down, but I wouldn’t use dating apps and I’d rather meet people in real life. I’m old school in that sense.
Pre-date jitters?
Yes, a little anxious. I had to postpone the first date due to a family illness, so I was looking forward to finally meeting Paij.
First impressions?
Paij is very pretty and looked very well presented in a sleeveless fuchsia pink dress. You can tell she is a professional person and is used to dressing to impress. She also seemed focused and motivated from the start, which is a big plus for me. I told her she looked good and she smiled.
Easy to talk to?
Yes, we talked about Paij’s love life and why she’s single. Like me, she’s very focused on her career. I gave her advice about her business, emphasizing the importance of the customer perspective rather than just the bottom line. I think she appreciated my feedback. She didn’t tell me, but she took notes. We both like to work out, which is important. Paij enjoys hot yoga, while I do martial arts. I would be open to trying hot yoga, though.
Embarrassing moments?
I sneezed twice. Does that count? I suffer from hay fever and I don’t like sneezing around other people, especially in a restaurant. But Paij was kind and said “bless you.”
Did sparks fly?
Yes, I liked Paij and tried to flirt with her, but it didn’t go anywhere, so I stopped. I didn’t get the feeling that she had any chemistry (I know a lot about human psychology and I’m a great reader of body language). So I realized that she didn’t like me.
Do you see it again?
I would, yes. But I’m not sure Paij feels the same way. We hugged goodbye on the subway, but I didn’t ask for her number because I felt she didn’t feel the same spark and I didn’t want to seem pushy.
What do you think he thought of you?
Confident, calm, relaxed? I’m not sure. But he told me I looked good.
Would your family and friends like it?
I think so, because Paij is a professional, sensible and at the same time brilliant woman.
Rahat Verdict: 8/10
Appreciated? Spending time with Paij
Regrets? I can’t get his number.
Coffee or taxi? Cab.
