Barcelona’s goal to bring in Sergio Agüero for free ‘now he’s in the last six months of his deal … despite the Man City star being limited to just three starts this season due to an injury
- Sergio Agüero is still waiting for Manchester City to offer him a new contract
- The 32-year-old is currently free to speak to foreign clubs during this transfer period
- He has reportedly piqued the interest of La Liga giants Barcelona
- The reports come just days after the Argentinian was linked with PSG
According to reports, Barcelona has plans to sign Manchester City star Sergio Agüero on a free transfer.
The Argentinian has entered the last six months of his contract at Etihad Stadium and while looking for a new deal, he is still waiting for the Premier League to offer him new terms.
However, his current contract status means he is free to negotiate with foreign clubs this month, and according to The Sun, the team has warned of Ronald Koeman, who is keen to bring the former Atletico Madrid forward back to La Liga.

The 32-year-old Argentinian has yet to be offered a new deal by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City
The Dutch boss has tried a number of options in the center forward this season following Luis Suarez’s departure and appeared to have struck gold with Ansu Fati before sustaining a knee injury in November.
Most recently he has tried Martin Braithwaite, Antoine Griezmann and even Lionel Messi as the central figure, but should the latter choose to stay at the Nou Camp there is the possibility that he will be joined by his fellow countryman and close friend Aguero.
In October, Aguero revealed that he and Messi are “like an old married couple” when they have an international service together.
The claims come just days after reports in France claimed that Paris Saint-Germain’s new boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to seal a sensational move for Aguero this summer.
Now it is claimed that Barcelona wants to bring the former Atletico Madrid striker back to LaLiga
Agent Bruno Satin, who has represented Olivier Dacourt and Michael Landreau, revealed that Pochettino is prioritizing moving for Aguero and making him his first major contract at the Parc des Princes.
Agüero, 32, has made just three starts and two goals for City this season after returning from knee surgery, with another 90 minutes to complete.
As a result, City was reluctant to make an offer until he can prove his eligibility.
The absence on the part of City’s record scorer – who hasn’t started a game since October due to knee and hamstring issues – will continue after boss Pep Guardiola revealed he will be ‘in isolation for another nine or ten days’ after coming into contact with a person with coronavirus.
A move to Barcelona could see him joining Lionel Messi if he decides to stay with the club
“The only important news is that he was perfect for the last 10 or 15 days before isolation,” said the City boss of the striker, who himself tested negative.
He responded well and this is the best news. The best part of the season is coming and hopefully we can have it.
“He’s losing workouts, and he’s a guy who needs exercise with his knee in better shape.”
Agüero will therefore miss City’s run of three Premier League home games in a week, starting with Brighton at the Etihad on Wednesday, followed by Crystal Palace and Aston Villa.
The Argentinian has won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and an FA Cup during a spellbinding spell in Manchester.
