A touching video of the shelter's 'saddest' pitbull finding his forever home has gone viral on social media

A touching video of the shelter’s “saddest” pitbull finding his forever home has gone viral on social media.

TikTok user Katie Kramer (@therealslimkatieeeee), nurse and influencer, and her husband, Cole, drove to a shelter in Phoenix, Arizona, with the intention of giving a dog a loving new home.

The TikTok video showed a dog behind bars at a shelter, pouting and looking into the distance.

But when the pup began to realize what was happening, he immediately lit up, tail wagging and eyes wide with hope.

“POV, find the saddest dog in the shelter and bring him home so he can have the life he deserves,” Kramer wrote in the video’s caption.

The video then shows the pit bull in the car, alert and sitting upright on a cozy blanket.

Finally, the last footage we see is of the Pittie chewing on a toy, animated and full of life.

We still don’t know the good guy’s name, his backstory, or how old he is.

To celebrate his adoption, the pit bull’s new owners gave him a gift on the way to his new home.

“He actually got a freedom cheeseburger on the way home,” Katie wrote in the video’s caption.

In a highly requested follow-up videoKatie showed off the new addition to her family getting lots of belly rubs, sticking her tongue out and smiling.

“It’s safe to say he’s adjusted well,” the video’s caption read.

Katie also owns the dog Chiweenie, who often appears in her content in a papoose or in a sling.

Pit bulls are a misunderstood breed, viewed as inherently aggressive dogs that are difficult to train, according to the Human society. Therefore, they are often the breeds that are left in shelters.

In a 2023 survey by Animals 24-7, they found that pit bulls took up more than half of all available space in shelters and rescue kennels.

‘ANIMALS 24-7 has for 14 consecutive years conducted an annual electronic survey of online advertisements offering dogs for sale or adoption, estimating breed populations from the breeds indicated by advertisers, whether breeders, shelters or rescues.

‘Of the total pit bull inventory advertised, 36% were offered by shelters or rescues – six times more than the norm for all other breeds combined.

‘Of the total 752,000 shelter and rescue dogs offered for adoption during the 2023 ANIMALS 24-7 survey, only 234,996 dogs were identified by breed – 31%.

«More than two-thirds of the available shelter and rescue dogs, specifically 69%, were not identified by breed.

‘If even half of these unidentified dogs were pit bulls, pit bulls would take up more than 70% of all available space in shelters and rescue kennels; If they are all pit bulls, a breed that represents only 5.5% of the total US dog population took up 80% of all rescue shelter and kennel space.’

But this family led by example and gave this sweet boy another chance at life.
