Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond has put his Wingadal mansion (pictured) up for sale, with the luxury property expected to fetch a staggering $200 million.

The $130 million IT billionaire Scott Farquhar paid for Uig Lodge 18 months ago was an Australian record, but it is likely to be surpassed by another property in the same exclusive Sydney harbor suburb of Point Piper.

Aussie Home Loans founder John Symond has put his Wingadal mansion up for sale and the luxury property is expected to fetch an incredible $200 million.

Symond, 76, bought the four-level house in 1999 and then spent eight years (and a lot of money) turning it into the spectacular home it is today.

It is located at the western end of Point Piper, on a 2,767 square meter block with a 98 meter water frontage overlooking Sydney Harbour, Opera House and Harbor Bridge.

Forbes Global Properties’ Ken Jacobs said it was “the most exciting listing” he has worked on in his 40 years in the real estate business.

“The estate is Australia’s most iconic residence and among the finest in the world, combining privacy and space, exuding elegance and comfort, while offering views of the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge,” he said.

Another agent, Brad Pillinger of Pillinger, said there was no comparable house in Australia and it was expected to break residential records.

“We hope that Wingadal will be the first sale to surpass the $200 million barrier in this country,” he said.

Wingadal is already attracting interest from around the world.

“It is the one property that high net worth people always know about, it is a truly international property and we are sure it will attract great international interest,” Mr Jacobs said.

The mansion is not only a house, but has also been widely used over the last quarter of a century as a venue for large charity events and galas hosted by Mr Symond.

The home’s internal entertaining areas can accommodate groups of 500 and there is also covered parking for 20 cars, including an eight-car garage.

Wingadal has two commercial kitchens and a custom-designed 2,500-bottle wine cellar, making catering for large events much easier.

For movie lovers, the house also has a movie room with capacity for 22 people.

Symond said he is selling now because he plans to spend more time abroad.

“Wingadal has been a special home for my family for the past two decades and I am now looking forward to spending more time traveling abroad,” he said.

He spoke fondly of the many galas held there over the years.

“While we are an exceptional family home, we have also enjoyed hosting many important events for charities and other worthy causes,” he said.

The home was designed by Alex Tzannes, who created the property to be a warm family home with intimate bedrooms as well as luxurious entertaining areas.

“The timeless design of the Point Piper Peninsula offers a unique appreciation of Sydney Harbor from a variety of angles, rotating around an axis that aligns perfectly with the Sydney Harbor Bridge,” Mr Tzannes said.
