A major police manhunt is underway after two men were shot in an alleged “targeted attack” in Sydney’s southwest on Saturday morning.

A 29-year-old man from Oran Park was found with gunshot wounds to the head and right shoulder at Highfield Park in Claymore at approximately 9.30am, with police and paramedics rushing to the scene.

Shortly before, police were also called to a nearby store in response to reports that a man had been shot in the shoulder before going for help.

Both men were treated by paramedics and rushed to Liverpool Hospital.

The 29-year-old man underwent surgery on Saturday afternoon and was fighting for his life in critical condition.

The other victim, a 31-year-old man from Minto, was listed in stable condition Saturday afternoon and was being evaluated.

Police said they were now searching for two men of Pacific Islander or Maori appearance who were seen in the park at the same time.

Police are also investigating possible links to a separate incident on Friday night in Minto, when a house was set on fire.

The front porch of the property was set on fire and when a 59-year-old man went to investigate, he was attacked with a metal pole, police said.

The front living room of the house was damaged when it caught fire and New South Wales Fire and Rescue workers extinguished the blaze.

The 59-year-old man was treated by paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition.

Police are appealing to speak to any witnesses, particularly anyone who was at the Highfield Park reserve between 9am and 10am.

“This type of senseless violence has significant consequences and not only affects the safety of the individuals involved, but the safety of the community,” said Superintendent Grant Healey.

“At 9.30am in a suburban park, this reckless disregard for the safety of everyone, we will investigate fully and bring these people to justice.”

Police said they had not yet spoken to the two victims and were investigating possible motives.

“This is a targeted attack – these are people who deliberately targeted other people,” Superintendent Healey said.
