A British tourist was allegedly raped last week by a man twice her age who intercepted her as she returned to her holiday apartment after a drunken night out with friends in Mallorca.
The 21-year-old alerted police after the street incident occurred in the early hours of August 7 in Port d’Andratx, on the west coast of the island.
During the night it emerged that detectives had arrested a 40-year-old Senegalese man.
He owns a fishing boat which is moored in the harbour near the bar where she had been drinking that night and allegedly sexually assaulted the British tourist after engaging in brief conversation with her and “taking advantage” of her drunken state.
He was held on the boat early Monday morning as it prepared to set out to sea.

The island’s Ultima Hora newspaper identified him only by his initials – BS – and said police had arrested him in the past for drug trafficking.
He was released on bail pending an ongoing criminal investigation after appearing before a judge in a closed-door hearing.
Magaluf police are believed to still be searching for another Senegalese man accused of raping a British tourist on the beach in a separate incident on July 24.
The suspect is an African street vendor who is said to have taken advantage of his victim’s drunken state when he found her lying alone on the street in the resort’s bustling Punta Ballena party area after she became separated from her friends.
The tourist also said that his phone had been stolen.
On August 4, it emerged that a British tourist had been assisted by police after reporting that she had been raped and robbed on a beach in Mallorca.
The 30-year-old woman told detectives she arranged to go to the beach near the island’s capital Palma with a man she met and ended up agreeing to have sex with him before a second man appeared on the scene and forced himself on her in the early hours of last Thursday morning.
Then, according to the tourist, they fled with their belongings.
According to local reports, she had accepted an offer of “free drugs” from the man she met while walking around Palma before heading to the beach with him.
She was taken to hospital for a routine medical scan and was said to be “visibly shaken” and in “a state of shock” before being flown back to London.
In April last year, an Italian man was arrested on suspicion of raping a 38-year-old British woman on a beach near Magaluf, after luring her from a nearby bar.
The 20-year-old was arrested after the victim complained he had forced her to have sex after a night out in Palmanova, which borders the famous party resort.

Last month, a British tourist claimed she had been raped on the beach just minutes from Magaluf’s bustling Punta Ballena party area.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Mallorca said: ‘The Civil Guard in Calvià has arrested a 20-year-old Italian man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 38-year-old woman.
‘Last week, the alleged victim and the suspect met at a nightclub in Palmanova.
‘When the bar closed, the suspect allegedly took advantage of the woman’s disorientation due to the amount of alcohol she had consumed, to take her to the beach and rape her.
‘The officers began an investigation and managed to identify and locate the alleged offender.’
Court officials could not be reached for comment this morning on the investigation that a judge launched at the time.
An 18-year-old British woman was allegedly gang-raped in a hotel in Magaluf in the early hours of 14 August last year. Five French nationals and one Swiss national were arrested and remanded in custody pending an ongoing judicial investigation and two other suspects were subsequently arrested in France under European arrest warrants.
