Kolkata Knight Riders fast bowler Harshit Rana recently made headlines when he gave a brutal send-off to Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman Mayank Agarwal after dismissing him during their IPL 2024 match in Kolkata on Saturday. Mayank looked good but on the third ball of the sixth over he tried to pull a bouncer from Rana and ended up giving a catch to the fielder at deep back square leg. Rana was ecstatic as he took his first wicket of this edition and he celebrated by blowing a flying kiss to the batsman.

The act resulted in a hefty fine for Harshit Rana. “Kolkata Knight Riders bowler Harshit Rana has been fined a total of 60 percent of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on March 23.

“Rana committed two Level 1 offenses under Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He was fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fee for the two respective offences. Rana admitted the two offenses and accepted the sanction of the match referee. For level In case of violation of the Code of Conduct, the decision of the match referee shall be final and binding,” said an IPL press release.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma repeated the gesture with Mayank Agarwal ahead of their match on Wednesday.

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar was not impressed with Harshit Rana as he spoke out on the issue through commentary.

“He shouldn’t have done that. Did the batsman do something to him when he hit him for sixes? Cricket can be played without these antics. It’s the television age. I understand that. Celebrate with your teammates, but that’s not necessary .” antics for the opposition,” he said in his comments.
