Former Florida Panthers captain Olli Jokinen is hard at work in his second career.
After 17 seasons and 1,231 games in the NHL, Jokinen transitioned from playing to coaching.
He founded and led the South Florida Hockey Academy for several seasons before accepting his first professional head coaching job with Jukurit in Liiga, known in English-speaking circles as the Finnish Elite League.
After three seasons at Mikkeli with Jukurit, Jokinen accepted a job coaching Timra IK in the Swedish Hockey League, Sweden’s top professional league.
This week, footage of Jokinen talking to Timra in the locker room went viral.
In the clips, Jokinen sends a profanity-laced message to his players, who apparently didn’t bring their helmets to work that night.
It’s great to see Jokinen in his new element.
As he continues to hone his craft overseas, it’s probably not crazy to think of Jokinen one day returning to North America.
He has many connections and relationships in professional hockey here, and returning would be the next logical step if he wanted to continue climbing the coaching ladder.
You can watch the full clip of Jokinen’s swear fest below (it starts around the 13:25 mark), but keep in mind that it’s not for younger ears.
