An Australian dad has spoken out after being “laid off” from his job just weeks before Christmas.
Melbourne father-of-two Eric revealed he was made redundant from his corporate job during his six-month parole meeting last week.
In a video shared on social media, Eric claimed he was fired for refusing to participate in “office politics” while at the company.
Eric explained that he was hired on a six-month full-time contract, with the possibility of extending it once his probation ended.
‘You want to know the craziest thing that just happened to me. Your boy just lost his damn job,’ he said in the video.
The video also included a secretly recorded clip of the exact moment he was fired during a conversation with his manager.
He praised Eric’s work ethic, attitude and teamwork.
‘You have good positive points. We see that you raise your hand to help people. You are very practical. “You’re a team player too,” he told Eric.
‘The role itself is not easy to play; In fact, you did a pretty good job. You tried, you did the best you could.
Father-of-two Eric (pictured) was fired from his corporate job during his six-month parole meeting.
However, his manager explained that they “had multiple conversations” and decided that his contract would not continue.
“At this time, unfortunately, we will not be able to continue with the contract,” he said.
“It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but (you don’t fit) the type of role we really need for the business right now.”
Eric responded and told him, “Sometimes redirection has a reason.”
Immediately afterwards, the manager gave him a hug.
“Now is the time to pursue my dream,” Eric told his followers on social media.
‘Last night I wrote in my journal: “Dear God, when will I know when it is right for me to quit my job?”
“I kind of felt like it was coming.”
Eric speculated on the reasons for the decision, noting that halfway through his probation he had expressed concerns about low pay.
“I was doing well, they just criticized me for all my mistakes and I made great business with them,” he wrote.
‘They want cheap labor that doesn’t know its value. I said the pay wasn’t that much.
“So even if I had stayed for a slight raise, I would have had to work even harder for a few hundred extra dollars a week.”
He now plans to dedicate his time to his side hustle, selling T-shirts through his business. Crossed.
‘So if you want, buy yourself a t-shirt or a phone case. I’m working on designing some pants, but there’s a long way to go. Life goes on.’
The video sparked criticism for the company’s decision, with many viewers wondering why Eric was fired despite his positive comments.
“She never once said what you did wrong,” one person commented.
“That HR lady didn’t make sense about why they fired you in the first place,” a second person said.
A third added: “All I heard was that you’re good at your role.” So now I’m confused.”
