An Australian family making up to $10,000 a day from their social media videos paid $176,000 for a specially trained guard dog flown in from the UK.

The Norris family of eight, who have become an online sensation for their antics on YouTube and Instagram, said they needed the dog for protection.

Their content mainly consists of vlogs of various activities the family does, such as getting a new dog, pulling pranks, spicy potato chip eating competitions, and going camping.

The combined family has around five million followers on Instagram, with the YouTube channel garnering nearly six million subscribers on its main channel.

In a YouTube video from December, Saber Norris said she had been feeling “very insecure lately” and expressed a wish for reassurance.

“It sucks that we don’t feel so safe, but I think Demi will be able to help us,” he said.

The family confirmed the purchase of the dog last week, adding: “She is simply the best, we are so excited.” . . we can not wait’.

Reader Borlant, who trained Demi at the UK-based service Protection Dog Worldwide, said in a social media video that Demi was going to a family in Australia who had “safety concerns”.

“I am absolutely certain that he will do them justice and take care of the family,” Borlant said.

“This dog has been absolutely formidable from the moment he was born… the dog is a serious, serious weapon to someone and will protect them at all costs.”
