Hampshire firefighters were called to what must surely have been their darkest rescue of the year on Christmas Day.
Lola, a mare, had been stranded in the cloudy water of a swimming pool in Swanmore.
Botley firefighters were first called shortly after 10am on Christmas morning.
Firefighters and teams specialized in animal rescue came to the horses’ aid at the place where Lola had accidentally become trapped.
A Manitou forklift from Eastleigh and an animal specialist unit from Winchester were also called in to assist in Lola’s rescue operation.
After coming up with a rescue plan, emergency services managed to get the distressed animal out of the pool and back to safety.
This carefully executed plan included calling a veterinarian to help sedate Lola so she could maneuver properly without harming herself out of the water.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service has since shared that Lola is recovering and enjoying the freedom of dry land in a neighboring field.
