After seeking multiple opinions following his elbow injury earlier this week, Yankees third base Jazz Chisholm Jr. He was advised to rest and rehab his ulnar collateral ligament sprain, and the hope is that he will return this season. The New York Post’s Jon Heyman reports.
That’s good news for the Yankees, as surgery at this point would have meant Chisholm would be out until next year, ending his stellar campaign with the Bronx Bombers.
Instead, the versatile player is hopeful of returning sometime in September.
Chisholm injured his left elbow diving to the plate Monday against the Chicago White Sox and left the game. He underwent an MRI on Tuesday before receiving the results the next day, at which point the Yankees placed him on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 13.
As of this moment, Chisholm is away from baseball activities and manager… Aaron Boone He’s not sure when he’ll be able to get back to it.
Regardless, the news that Chisholm has avoided surgery for now is certainly a sigh of relief for New York.
In just 14 games with the Yankees since being traded from the Miami Marlins, Chisholm is hitting .316 with seven homers and a 1.063 OPS, giving New York’s offense a boost.
The 26-year-old has also spent the majority of his time in the Bronx at third base for the first time in his career and has handled it with aplomb, giving the Yankees some much-needed production from that key position.
