Thieves have stolen expensive machinery and equipment from the construction site of Wrexham’s new academy training ground, according to reports in Wales.

Under the Hollywood ownership of actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, the Welsh club has enjoyed an impressive rise from the bottom rungs of the football pyramid.

Phil Parkinson’s side achieved the first of consecutive promotions in the spring of 2023, rising to League Two, before being promoted to League One ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.

And with impressive results on the pitch there have been major changes as Reynolds and McElhenney have looked to improve the club’s facilities.

One of the investments the owners are looking to make is on the youth side, with work starting on a multi-million pound development in the village of Rossett in Wrexham.

But just months after interim work began on the site, it was attacked by thieves over the Christmas period.

The club’s plans for the project were briefly hampered as they attempted to receive planning permission despite opposition from some locals.

according to wales onlineLocal police confirmed that a John Deere tractor and a Bateson trailer were among the machinery stolen during the alleged theft, which is believed to have occurred between December 20 and January 3.

A padlocked door at the location was also broken during the robbery.

A club spokesperson confirmed that the club had lodged a police report and would seek to recover the costs of the stolen items through Wrexham insurers.

The theft is the latest impediment to the club’s plans to convert the site, which have been hampered by objections from neighbors and obstacles to planning permission.

Work is believed to have begun on the project, which will aim to boost the club’s youth recruitment and development as they pursue their dream of appearing in the Premier League, before planning permission is granted.

However, proposals for the project were subsequently endorsed by Wrexham Council’s planning committee last month, with the go-ahead given for work to continue.

On the field, Wrexham are aiming for their third promotion in as many seasons and currently sit third in League One, level on points with second-placed Wycomber Wanderers.

Most recently, the team bounced back from a 2-1 loss to Barnsley away with a 1-0 home win against Peterborough on Saturday.

Parkinson’s players will now enjoy an extended break before returning to competitive action due to the postponements, with their next match being a fixture against Shrewsbury next Thursday.
