Love Island has unveiled its first trailer ahead of the highly anticipated season 11 launch show.
The ITV2 dating show, which is rumored to return on Monday June 3, will see a new group of singles looking for love in Mallorca.
Before announcing the contestants, ITV previewed the new season with a video of an illusory figure dressed in a silver jumpsuit wielding a flamethrower with the sound of an electric guitar.
The clip ends with the iconic Love Island theme given a rock twist as the flamethrower erupts to say “this summer is going to be fire!”
Show bosses will no doubt hope the show is a bigger hit with viewers than the Love Island: All Stars spin-off that aired earlier this year.
While the series was the biggest digital show of the year to date, it failed to reach the viewing figures of its glory days.
After a dramatic series, Molly Smith and Tom Clare were crowned winners of the first Love Island All Stars in February.
The ITV reality show received the lowest ratings ever for a Love Island final, with just one million viewers tuning in live to the grand finale, making it the least-watched final since the first series in 2015.
Including viewing figures from streaming platform ITVX, 1.3 million fans watched the final, in line with last year’s winter series finale.
Suggesting the show’s peak of popularity has passed, Monday night’s numbers were incredibly low compared to series four and five, when more than three and a half million fans tuned in.
According to Super TV, ITV2 ratings accounted for just 8.4 per cent of viewing figures, while Overnight TV statistics showed they accounted for just 7.6 per cent.
Of this figure, 0.4 million viewers were between 16 and 34 years old, an increase compared to last year’s winter final.
In 2018, 3.6 million tuned in as Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham pocketed £50,000, followed by Amber Gill and Greg O’Shea, who achieved the highest rating ever for a final with 3.7 million.
Viewing figures for the final have declined in recent years, having dropped to around one million after the dramatic conclusion of Davide Sanclimenti and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu’s series, which was watched by three million.
Commenting on the declining figure, one fan wrote: “I hope they don’t make a January series next year and let it rest.” Just focus on the summer and give people a break.
The reigning champions of the regular series are Jess Harding and Sammy Root, who won season 10 in July 2023.
