World Cup hosts Qatar are beaten 1-0 by Northern Irish minnows Linfield in Marbella practice match
World Cup hosts Qatar are beaten 1-0 by Northern Ireland whitefish Linfield in the Marbella exhibition game, despite having used seven of the same players in their last international match
In an exhibition game in Marbella, Spain on Tuesday night, David Healy’s side defeated Qatar 1-0.
Former Rangers striker Chris McKee scored the only goal of the game to give the South Belfast side the win.
Linfield, who became NIFL champion for the fourth time in a row last season and the 56th time ever, famously defeated Kenya 1-0 in 2002 and lost 1-0 to world champion Argentina in 1990 ahead of the World Cup later that year.
Felix Sanchez’s men will play against Ecuador in the competition on November 21, after which they will face Senegal and the Netherlands to complete their group.
