Supermodels and celebrities don't get their enviable figures without hard work when it comes to their fitness regimes and diets.
While an LA retreat called the Ranch is more than happy to help them look their best and has clients such as Nicole Scherzinger, Selma Blair, Rebel Wilson and Lindsay Lohan on their 4-day and week-long retreats in the hills of Malibu.
However, a famous body is not cheap – fitness enthusiasts pay thousands of dollars, about $ 7,000 (£ 5,700) for a week, to adhere to the strict vegan diet and fitness motivation of the Ranch – allowing them to walk for several hours every day and participate three daily fitness classes.
The vegan diet with 1400 calories per day also means no alcohol and farmers are advised against consuming caffeine or eating dairy products, soy or gluten.
Sarah Finley from Femail signed up to find out if it was really as hard as it sounded …
Femail & # 39; s Sarah Finley spent four days at the Ranch in Malibu and loved the walks but admits they were tough
Sarah climbed 4 hours a day in the mountains – and completed about 35 miles of walking on the weekend
30 30 days before I even board a plane, I get a travel plan in advance that recommends detoxing in advance, which means you have to prepare fewer things like sugar, alcohol and caffeine to prepare.
& # 39; They also recommend that you walk more up to 15,000 steps a day and do as much exercise as possible – to prepare your body for when you get there. But it is hard to fit in a full-time job – and the closer I get to my stay, the more panicked I feel.
& # 39; The health retreat opens in 2010 and spends a week staying at their Malibu locations. So successful that they also opened their Italian 6-week retreat in the Dolomites. I am in their residence, located in the WestLake village of the Four Season for a four-day reset retreat.
& # 39; They were started by Sue and Alex Glasscock and employ a handful of people to look after us for the weekend, greet us when we get there, look after us for the weekend and wake us up at 5.30 am with door knockers. Yep – it's an early wake-up call.
& # 39; The day then starts at 6 am & # 39; in the morning to prepare us for the four-hour walk. A healthy breakfast is the following, before we leave for our walk, where we take different mountain routes every day.
& # 39; To reset residents and get them in shape, they also use a strict diet of 1400 calories a day – eating a vegan menu of fruits, vegetables, grains, and nuts. & # 39;
However, a famous body is not cheap – stars and managers pay thousands of dollars, about $ 7K for a week, to adhere to The Ranch's strict vegan diet and fitness motivation
The day starts with stretching at 6 o'clock in the morning, to prepare you for the four-hour walk (photo), a healthy breakfast is the next day and then you set off to take different mountain routes every day to to mix it – with different slopes and paths
If you live in London, you don't get many opportunities to climb mountains, and you don't have time to climb 4 hours a day – so Sarah (photo) found the experience enlightening
Climbing on Saturday was one of the hardest – based on the Rancho Sierra Vista in the mountains of Santa Monica, it had steep slopes for miles
& # 39; If you live in London, you don't get many chances to climb mountains, and you don't have time to climb them four hours a day – so on my first climb I'm excited to get started and to experience the feeling of being in nature.
& # 39; I am relatively fit and take about 3-4 classes a week in the gym, but I soon notice that these mountains are a killer – it doesn't take long before I am out of breath and look at the steep slopes in front of me hoping she won't & # 39; t takes a long time.
& # 39; The Saturday climb is one of the most difficult – based on the Rancho Sierra Vista in the mountains of Santa Monica, it has steep slopes for miles. In my mind I assumed that we would all walk and chat together, but I soon noticed that most people are very competitive and anticipate steam.
& # 39; While walking, the trainers set orange flags to mark our route, but I quickly leave alone and regularly wonder if I missed a flag on the way – so when I see one, I sigh relieved.
Sarah walked one of the most difficult mountains in Malibu and got six almonds and black salt to walk back down
Singer and X-Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger participated in the walks on the Ranch last year, while other celebrities such as Selma Blair were seen during the retreat
& # 39; They also give us walkie-talkies, mainly for safety reasons, which they use to lead us around the hills and remind us every 10 minutes to drink "water, water, water" while sipping our hydration backpacks.
& # 39; Instead of distance, they climb on time, so after two hours, whether you've walked 5 or 7 miles, it's time to go back to the route you just walked. Most of the days I manage 10 miles or more and felt quite smug when I checked my steps for the day – 30,000 – I barely get 5,000 when I get home.
& # 39; Saturday climbing was so difficult and when I wake up the next day, my legs are in so much pain that I can barely get out of bed. Fortunately, as part of the retreat, you also receive a 45-minute massage every day, in which they smash all the knots in your legs and the rest of your body.
Visiting different mountains every day – they were all in and around the Malibu area, an hour's drive from Hollywood
One of the breakfasts that Sarah received when she was at the Ranch – berries with homemade muesli
& # 39; The views are worth it though – lakes, beaches and breathtaking scenery for miles remind me that I have come here to reset not only my body but also my mind, and for celebrities it is probably a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood just an hour away.
& # 39; However, the exercise did not stop there – after lunch, we also have access to three 45-minute lessons, focusing on abs, glutes, and arms – to ensure that we work our entire body throughout the four days.
& # 39; I am not going to lie because they are not mandatory, I exchange a few lessons for the pool and spa. & # 39;
To reset and get in shape, residents also use a strict 1400 calorie daily diet – eating a vegan menu of fruits, vegetables, grains and nuts
All meals were vegan based and Sarah learned how to make vegetable burger (in the photo) and kale chips before she left
& # 39; I eat a forbidden apple that I removed from the spa – after eating 1400 calories for two days, I am starving and feel guilty about eating an apple – which I know sounds ridiculous.
& # 39; It's not that the food here isn't great, it actually exceeds my expectations – I'm just not used to eating a vegan diet and giving up so much.
& # 39; I am not a huge meat eater, but I do love my roast chicken, a nice glass of white wine, and my morning coffee, so giving up all that, especially on a weekend, is hard.
& # 39; I also have some friends who are vegan and not exactly adventurous with their diet – so I was afraid that I would starve or eat salad all week. So imagine my horror when the first meal I had was a bowl of salad.
& # 39; Fortunately, it's just the appetizer.
One of the breakfasts at the Ranch was Chickpea Frittata with roasted vegetables – other breakfasts including breakfast balls with cranberry and walnut
As part of the reimbursement, the Ranch also has a private chef who makes vegan food taste really great – meals such as lentil vegetarian burgers and chickpea frittata & # 39; s are perfectly flavored and cooked.
& # 39; We start the day with simple things such as homemade muesli, berries and almond milk or & # 39; oatmeal overnight.
Ze They also give us snacks to eat during the walk – the most laughable is 6 almonds and some black salt after two hours of climbing. When they accidentally gave me 7 almonds, I almost danced with excitement.
& # 39; Lunch is always well received after a four-hour walk, and included vegetarian hummus wraps and a kale and chickpea salad. In the meantime, just before bedtime, we eat Eggplant Bolognese with courgetti and cauliflower-based vegetarian pizzas.
& # 39; But I sometimes got hungry – especially after all the exercises, while others suffered from withdrawal headache and bloating. & # 39;
Sarah stayed in the residence of The Ranch, located in the WestLake village of the Four Season, which had beautiful mountain views
Hollywood actresses Hilary Duff (left) and Malin Akerman (right) have spent time in the retreat
& # 39; At the end of the four days I feel great – my body feels like it has been reset, my legs and buttock muscles feel stronger, my stomach feels flatter and I have even lost a few pounds. Above all, I feel so rested, although I have to be kept awake the whole weekend at 5.30 am.
& # 39; I'm not saying it was easy – anything you want to see change in body and mind can be difficult. Be prepared to hurt, sweat and probably experience some hunger pains. However, I was also ready for a glass of wine and a good calorie laden meal by the end.
& # 39; Of course, the price is also a bottleneck – not everyone can afford more than $ 1,000 a day to technically hear that he should not eat bad things and be led around a mountain. But these guys are pros and if you want a body like a celebrity, you have to work hard for it. & # 39;
