She has rocked countless shaggy hairstyles over the past few months.
But Willow Smith was ready for a change while filming a concert movie that was released on Facebook this weekend.
The 20-year-old musician shocked her fans at the end of the 48-minute concert film and documentary hybrid by making her hair buzz onstage after a performance of her 2010 single Whip My Hair.
Time for a change: Willow Smith, 20, capped off a Facebook concert film posted this weekend by shaving her afro onstage after finishing a performance of her 2010 single Whip My Hair
Willow’s concert film was released Friday to mark the release of her fourth studio album, the EP-length collection of late i feel EVERYTHING.
In addition to behind-the-scenes footage, she plays multiple parts of the LP, including collaborations with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker.
The performances were mainly done on sound stages with new sets for each set, and Will Smith’s daughter packaged her virtual concert in what looked like a basement or garage.
She sang her 2010 single Whip My Hair, which initially helped her step out of the shadows of her famous parents.
But at the end of the song, she sat down on a stool when another person came up to her with an electric clipper and started shaving off her thick afro.

Multitasker: Even while getting her hair cut, Willow kept rocking her black guitar, which she cradled in her lap
Even while she was getting her hair cut, Willow continued to rock her black guitar, which she cradled in her lap.
When her impromptu stylist was done, they stepped back to reveal Willow’s sleek new cropped look.
“I’m thinking about shaving my head while performing Whip My Hair,” she said earlier in a behind-the-scenes look. “This will be the third time in my life that I’m shaving my head. I always shave my head at monumental moments in my life, when things really change. And this is certainly one of those moments.”
She’s no stranger to dramatic public hairstyles, and the first time she shaved her head was in 2012 during her Whip My Hair tour.
“It was the perfect way to rebel,” she said People in 2019.
The most recent time she cut all her hair was in March 2020, when she locked herself in a glass case for 24 hours as part of a performance piece for the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles.
“I feel like I was just shaking off a lot of history and emotional baggage,” she said on a subsequent episode of Red Table Talk, the Facebook talk show that stars her mother Jada Pinkett Smith and grandmother Adrienne Banfield-Jones. “Six, seven, years of emotion, I just let it go.”

Belief: Willow shaved her hair back earlier this month and last week persuaded her mother Jada Pinkett Smith to shave her own head
The concert seems to have been recorded earlier, as Willow made her first Instagram debut on July 5 with her shaved head.
Her new haircut seems to have inspired her mom Jada to try the shaved look for herself.
The mother-daughter duo snuggled up in an adorable photo from earlier this week when the Matrix Reloaded star revealed her new hair, which was shaved even tighter than Willow’s buzz cut.
“Willow made me do it because it was time to let go, BUT… my 50s are almost divinely lit with this shed❣️,” Jada gushed on Instagram.
Her daughter was more philosophical, writing, “A gift is pure when it is given from the heart to the right person at the right time and place, and when we expect nothing in return.”
Trying everything out: Willow has been showing off several longer hairstyles in recent weeks, including shoulder-length curls and braids
